Aug/Sep/Oct Wrap Ups!

Hello, what do you mean we’re almost done with November? I am not ready for this! (Clearly I have no sense of time as I’m writing my August wrap up months later..) Anyways, I’ve been in a bit of a slump lately. Looking through the books I’ve read this year, there have been very few that have gotten me excited, which has been disappointing. I also read a good number of ARCs, but moving forward, I want to focus more on backlist books I’ve got that I know I’ll like, and hopefully boost my reading mood some more.

August Wrap Up

My one book for this month was The Devil Makes Three by Tori Bovalino (3/5), and you can find my full review for it here.

September Wrap Up

I doubled my book count in September with two reads, both debuts! Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao (3.5/5) is explosive and angry, one wild ride of a read. Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone (3.25/5) on the other hand is creepy and fantastical (review here). Overall, two good debuts and I look forward to future works by both authors.

October Wrap Up

I started out the month by finishing up The Other Merlin by Robin Schneider (2.5/5) – thanks so much to my partner Penguin Teen for sending me a copy! I also read ARCs of City of Shattered Light by Claire Winn (3.5/5) and the graphic novel Between Shades of Gray by Andrew Donkin (3.5/5). A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow (3.5/5) was a fascinating and short punch of a novella vs Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan MacQuire (3.5/5) which was good but dragged on in the middle to the point where it took me 2 months to finish (though I still plan on reading the other books in the series). I was also on a tour for Of Trust and Heart by Anne Charlotte Hamilton (2.25/5). To wrap up the month, I finally got around to reading Hither Page by Cat Sebastian (4/5), which was full of that good softness and pining I’ve come to expect from all of Sebastian’s books.

What do you think of these reads? Let me know in a comment below or find me on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads)!

With love, Pei
