July Wrap Up

Happy August friends! I can’t believe another month has come and gone. I’ve been transformed into a sports fan with the start of the summer Olympics and have discovered a love for synchronized diving.

Also, I’m so excited to share that I’ll be repping for two amazing companies this season! I’ll be on with Illumicrate through the October box, and Tookish Candle Co through the end of the year. While Illumicrate is still on the waitlist sign up, you can use my code pei5 for a discount on a 3 or 6 month subscription. If you’re a current monthly subscriber, you can email them to change your subscription. Tookish is currently closed but a restock is coming, and once it does, you can use peireads10 for a discount as well! I’ve recently received both my July Illumicrate and first Tookish rep package, and I can’t wait to share them all with you.

July Reading Recap

July opened up with The Taking of Jake Livingston (3.5/5) by debut author Ryan Douglass. This was a fascinating and spooky read that I think fans of horror will definitely enjoy. Next up was Gearbreakers (2/5), another debut by Zoe Mikuta, which unfortunately I really disliked for a number of reasons.

I had to cleanse my palette after, which I did with a reread of Eva Evergreen, Semi-Magical Witch (4.5/5) by Julie Abe, which celebrates the sequel release TODAY, Tuesday, August 3rd! Julie was kind enough to send me a copy of this book last year in exchange for some bookstagram pictures, and I fell in love with this sweet Ghibli-inspired middle grade fantasy. I made a snack board reel that you can check out here to celebrate our mutual love of snacks.

Next up was Constelis Voss Vol 1 by K. Leigh M., which unfortunately was a DNF for me about 1/4 of the way in. If you’re interested in checking it out, please note that it is a novella not a graphic novel!

Lastly, I wrapped up this month of debuts with A Marvellous Light (4.5/5) by Freya Marske, which has been one of most highly anticipated books of the year. What a way to close up the month! I’d definitely recommend this one and I can’t wait to shoot some photos of this gorgeous cover as well.

What’s on your August TBR? Any of these titles catch your eye? Let me know in a comment below or find me on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads)!

With love, Pei
