A (belated) Mid-Year Update

Happy Monday, my friends! Hope everybody’s been doing alright.

I’m doing something a little bit different than my usual monthly wrap-ups (since those were taking me too long to write up haha), just as a quick update on me, my life, and my reading journey.

My work is starting to ramp up in-person care and virtual teaching is slowly starting to wrap up. It’s definitely weird being back in clinic, especially with all the changes that have been implemented – plexiglass at all the counters, scrubs, face shields and goggles all the time… Part of me is glad to be back, glad to be actually physically helping people, but part of me is definitely very anxious still, about my patients, my students, my coworkers, and me. Hopefully, things continue to get better, both here and around the country. Sending my thoughts and good vibes to anybody in need!

In bookish news? I’ve purchased many books and I have… Read some of them. A couple days ago, there was this tweet floating around about how book collecting and book reading are two different hobbies… There’s just something about looking at a full bookshelf that is so pleasing! I’ve also recently moved to a larger apartment which means more space for bookshelves. But don’t worry, I have been reading books as well haha. According to Goodreads, I’m at 53, which is just a little behind my yearly goal of 100. I definitely go through phases of fast reading and no reading, especially given the whole situation *gestures vaguely at the world*, but hopefully I’ll hit 100 by December! Why 100? I like the number. The Black Lives Matter book bingo should definitely help with that as well. If y’all haven’t checked it out yet, please give it a click! Read books by Black authors and enter into a raffle to win some incredible prizes, with bonus points for queer books and finishing lines/the whole sheet.

Favorite books so far are the Whyborne and Griffin series by Jordan L Hawk, Fragile Remedy by Maria Ingrande Mora (pub March 2021), and Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender. You can check out my joint review for Felix with Kathy from Pages Below the Vaulted Sky here! Anticipated releases for the rest of the year include The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart (Sept 10) and Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar (Aug 11). I also finally got my grubby little hands on an ARC of Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (Sep 1) and really enjoyed it! Hopefully you’ll see a joint review of that coming up soon…

Next in my TBR are Soulbound #3 and 4 by Hailey Turner, Dating Makes Perfect by Pintip Dunn (Aug 18), and Heartsong by TJ Klune. I’m also planning on making my way through the crazy amounts of books I’ve purchased in quarantine (haha) and getting a couple squares filled for the BLM Bingo.

I’ve also been hard at work bookstagramming! If you’ve got an account, I’d love to connect with you over there (@peireads). I’m super close to 1000 followers, so I’d really appreciate a follow. Bookstagramming is lots of fun, and setting up the shoots is nice and relaxing. I’ve met some great friends through bookstagram and I love chatting books, props, and book boxes with them. I’m also thrilled to announce that I’m an influencer for Book Nook Sleeves for the next few months! Check out her shop for wonderfully padded book sleeves and pin hoops, and don’t forget to use my code PEI10 to save 10% off your purchase. To the right, you can see the wonderful hoop I got for myself.

That’s it from me for now! Hoping for a good week for all of you. As always, feel free to reach out to me on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads)!

With love, Pei
