Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Bought/Borrowed Because…

Because their covers were pretty: I will be the first to admit that I am very easily won over by good cover art/design, and most of the time it works out! Read on below to see what books and covers have caught my eye (in no particular order):

  1. The Last Sun – KD Edwards
The art on this cover is gorgeous! I got this out of the library on a whim – and now look where I am. I’ve got a full review of this book up here that you can check out – 5/5* to this amazing book. The cover for book 2, The Hanged Man, is equally stunning, and if the cover artist ever changes, I might riot.
  2. Timekeeper – Tara Sim
I’m a sucker for steampunk-y things, and this is no exception. The version I got is a bit different than the one on Goodreads right now, but that’s also very pretty. I ended up loving this book and am super happy to own a personalized copy!
  3. Havenfall – Sara Holland
I haven’t read this one yet, but it’s in the TBR pile. I couldn’t help buying this after I saw the cover. I mean, look at it. That’s a work of art.
  4. The Young Elites – Marie Lu
Picked this out of the library after browsing aimlessly because the cover was nice. I ended up really liking it and finished the whole trilogy in less than 48 hours. You can check out my review on Goodreads here.
  5. Tarnished Are The Stars – Rosiee Thor
I haven’t finished this book yet (reading slumps suck!) but that cover kills me.
  6. The House in the Cerulean Sea – TJ Klune
So, a friend recommended this to me and I was hesitant, because the first (and last, at the time) TJ Klune book I had read, I really, really didn’t like… But that cover art won me over and I was not disappointed! This book was sweet and hit me in all the feels. I’ve got a review of it here.
  7. Bonds of Brass – Emily Skrutskie
I requested this ARC after seeing the new cover reveal and WOW, I wasn’t disappointed. If you haven’t heard yet, I’m obsessed with this book. By the way, it comes out TODAY! You can check out my review here.
  8. The Four Profound Weaves – RB Lemberg
A gorgeous cover for a gorgeous book. This is one of those cover designs I’d love to see as a naked hardback! I was lucky enough to get an e-ARC from Netgalley and you can check out my review on Goodreads here. This book comes out September 4, 2020!
  9. The Ninth Life – Taylor B. Barton
Updated August 31, 2020 to remove the recommendation for this book. I still think the cover is gorgeous, but I’ve since become aware of the author’s harmful and problematic behavior towards POC and members in the bookish community. Additionally, I do have a lot of issues with the book itself, mainly that it glorifies infidelity.
  10. The Bad Beginning – Lemony Snicket
Even as a kid, I was easily drawn in by fun cover art. This series was one of my favorites and I’m loving the Netflix adaptation so far (I’m a couple episodes behind!).

How about you? Are you a cover-reader? Let me know on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads)!

With love, Pei
